Has anyone mounted an electric winch on a B7800? The mount would be relatively simple, but I am concerned about the amp draw. I'm not sure what the alternator puts out and haven't found anything in my manual to tell me what it is. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with a winch on these tractors ?

There are some discussions in the archives on the topic. You have already identified the single salient point: Tractors in this class have tiny alternators. Mine is barely the size of a tuna can.
While it certainly will do the job it is designed to do, it barely supports additional work lighting and will not be compatible with high powered winches. ....

Electric winches do draw a lot of power and as Mark said the orginal ones are lacking a bit in the output needed to run one. It is possible for a limited use it could be an asset but as stated they do draw a lot of power. Ifyou do decide to do it make sure that it has a neutral to pull the cable out with out having to run the winch. ....

Thanks, pretty much what I thought. I wouldn't be using it heavily, but the draw is still a concern. Is there a larger alternator that could be used on this tractor? I think I've read some discussions about that. I believe the 2910 has a better alternator. ....

The draws I've heard for most electric winches are a lot larger than CUT alternators I'm aware of. I imagine that almost any of them would run mostly on the battery. A larger alternator would shorten up the recharge times provided the regulator allowed higher charge rates.
I think one of the archive discussions talked about using supplemental batteries to run a winch and estimated the length of time it could be used. ....

You might want to consider a hydraulic winch. I have one that I use on my tractor, my truck and on a utility trailer. On my truck I use the power steering pump as a hydraulic source and on my utility trailer I use a saginaw power steering pump powered by a five hp motor.The cost is about the same. I really use this a lot as I have a spinal cord disease and I use it to move a lot of things that a few years back I would have moved by hand. Just a thought. ....

Great idea. I've been doing some "noodling" on rear hydraulic plugs. It would seem I would need a motoring spool to control the winch motor. Is that how you set up your winch? ....

I used the power beyond from fel, reducing pressure and flow and the valve is on the winch with a remote control just like the electric winches have. Will send photos when I can get back to the farm for photos.I mounted winch on a piece of 3/ 8 inch plate and used a truck receiver-hitch setup so I can move from tractor to truck or trailer. The winches are slow but very powerful and you don't need but 6 amps for the valve operation and they don't heat up like electric winches do. The one I purchased needs 1500 to 2000 psi at 2 to 4 gpm.You can get a kit to use the power steering pump on a vehicle for hydraulic supply. My whole setup cost about 850.00. with a two year warranty. We have used it a lot and no problems so far.If you need further info e-mail . ....
